Plymouth Heritage Praxis is a spin-out consultancy with the University of Plymouth specialising in the investigation and intepretation of historic sites, cultural landscapes and material culture. Staff and students from our MA Heritage programmes work in partnership with cultural institutions, community groups, government and industry to deliver projects that benefit today's society.
We work with our partners to develop and implement projects that put contemporary thinking into practice at historic sites and museums (such as our work on the hidden heritage of LGBT groups). From new interpretation for exhibitions, events and trails - including graphic design, locative apps, virtual and augmented reality immersive experiences - to archival/field research or audience and stakeholder analysis we aim to work with partners who are keen to support our students, putting real-world experience at the heart of the student experience.
Plymouth Heritage Praxis is closely linked to the University of Plymouth's postgraduate programme, MA Heritage Theory and Practice. Each year our students work on a PHP project for their Heritage Practice module - directly contributing to project development and delivery.

Plymouth Heritage Praxis is Daniel Maudlin, Alan Butler, Jo Loosemore, James Daybell and the students and graduates of our MA Heritage programme.
Director
Daniel Maudlin is Professor of Heritage and Architectural History at the University of Plymouth where is Faculty Lead for Heritage, Culture and Digital and runs the MA Heritage programme. He is a specialist in the heritage and history of the historic built environment with a background in the heritage sector (Historic Environment Scotland). His work combines cultural heritage with historical geography with material culture.
Associate
Jo Loosemore is a museum curator, radio producer and heritage consultant. Jo teaches on the MA Heritage programme at the University of Plymouth. Jo curated the Mayflower 400 exhibition at the Box. She is also a producer and presenter for BBC Radio Devon.
Co-Director
Dr Alan Butler is a director of the Pride in Plymouth Community Trust and an Associate Lecturer at the University of Plymouth where he leads on the Heritage MA Display and Interpretation module. He is also a Volunteer and Community Engagement Officer with the National Trust and co-facilitates the Plymouth Community Heritage Network, for Plymouth Octopus, where he serves as a trustee.
